The purpose of the Policy committee shall be to offer parents of Head Start children the opportunity to have a decisive role in the planning, operation and evaluation of the Head Start program, including the active role of voting on elections, policies, parent activity money, personnel and the recruiting of volunteers and encouraging parent participation.

Parents are elected by the Center Committee and voted in by Policy to serve for a one year term to the Policy Committee.  The committee is composed of a minimum 51% current Head Start parents plus community representatives who may be past parents.

The Policy committee meets monthly.  However it reserves the right to enter into "executive session" as needed.  Officers are elected to the positions of chair, co-chair, recording secretary, and treasurer.

Parent attendance is vital as the Policy Committee serves a major purpose in the functioning of Head Start.
